What Is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is the concept that neurological differences — like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and Tourette’s syndrome — are natural variations of the human brain, not deficits or disorders to be "fixed."

The term neurodiversity challenges the idea that there is one "normal" way for a brain to function. Instead, it recognises that people experience and interact with the world in many different ways — and that these differences should be respected, accepted, and valued.

Neurodiversity Includes (but is not limited to):

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Autism Spectrum, Condition (ASC), Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Tourette Syndrome, and other cognitive and learning differences

Why It Matters

Understanding neurodiversity is crucial to creating inclusive environments — in homes, schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings — where all people can thrive.
Instead of focusing only on challenges or deficits, the neurodiversity framework also acknowledges unique strengths, such as creativity, hyperfocus, pattern recognition, problem-solving, and deep empathy.

At QLASS, we use a neuro-affirming approach. This means:

1 - We don’t pathologise difference.
2 - We respect lived experiences.
3 - We offer support that helps neurodiverse individuals navigate a world that isn’t always designed for them — without expecting them to change who they are.
